Introduction

Because Moses was able to see the invisible he was able to endure in the present.
Jesus in the garden knew the reality of the invisible and therefore endured in the present

Exposition

Hebrews 11:27 ESV
By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.
I. By Faith he left Egypt-
This is now referring to the second leaving with the people of Isreal
Some feel this refers to the first fleeing from Egypt.
This is referring to a complete willingness to leave it all behind.
All that was known to him he left for that in which God had for him.
II. Not Being afraid of the anger of the king
During the time of the 10 plagues upon Egypt Pharaoh became very angry.
Making it very hard upon the nation of Israel
Even to the point that Israel got mad at Moses
Moses knew what harm pharoah could bring and none the less did not fear.
Fear can keep us from doing what we should and move us to do what we shouldn’t
Fear is a means by which we can be manipulated by

Hebrews: The MacArthur New Testament Commentary Faith Rejects the World’s Pressure

Fear is one of Satan’s most effective, and therefore most used, weapons.

Hebrews: The MacArthur New Testament Commentary Faith Rejects the World’s Pressure

Fear is one of Satan’s most effective, and therefore most used, weapons. We are afraid of being thought different, or of losing our job, reputation, or popularity. We are afraid of criticism, often from people that we do not even respect.

OT Examples:
John F. MacArthur Jr., Hebrews, MacArthur New Testament Commentary (Chicago: Moody Press, 1983), 356.
Abraham- Feared the king of Egypt and The Philistines and lied about his wife.
Aaron- Moses brother feared the people while Moses was gone and gave into the demands of the people.
10 of the 12 spies- Feared the inhabitants of the land and turned the people away from the Lord.
Gideon’s Army- was afraid and 22000 were discharged. (Jud 7:3)
The Disciples- While in the boat and the sea was rough
Peter- was afraid and denied the Lord three times.
Hebrews: The MacArthur New Testament Commentary Faith Rejects the World’s Pressure

Fear is a great pressure, and all of us are tempted at times to bend when standing for the Lord requires us to say or do something that is unpopular or dangerous. But true faith does not fold under the world’s pressure.

The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Ten: Faith—The Greatest Power in the World (Hebrews 11)

As Dr. Vance Havner said, “Moses chose the imperishable, saw the invisible, and did the impossible.”

III. He endured seeing the invisible
The word endure “persisted” in the wake of the fear of pharaoh He trusted God more.
Him who is invisible- God.
Who is - Meaning real
1 Timothy 6:14–16 ESV
to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
Psalm 27:1 ESV
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Conclusion

Conclusion

Hebrews: The MacArthur New Testament Commentary Faith Rejects the World’s Pressure

Moses was the kind of man he was because he chose to focus his sights on God rather than on a monarch in Egypt. Yet how many times do we fall apart or back down in face of a much lesser threat. When we are afraid of the world, when we are afraid of what people will say or do, we are exposing ourselves to God’s displeasure and discipline for lack of faith. Faith rejects the world’s pressure, whatever it may be.

Take away points:
If we are to overcome fear we must-
We must totally turn to the Lord from the world.
Because part of the reaction to fear is persevering what we have in the world.
Prayer
The Word
We must chose to no longer fear but have faith.
We Must push through and watch God work in tangible ways.
